About Mental Health Counseling
Counseling@NYU offers an online master of arts in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness.
The degree program prepares you to become a mental health counselor and help people of all ages live healthy, meaningful lives.
The curriculum blends rigorous course work with clinical training to equip you for service in a variety of settings, including mental health centers, addiction treatment centers, community agencies, nonprofits, hospitals, and private practice. Through classes and course work, you will explore the foundation, theory, and process of counseling.
Your clinical training will give you hands-on experience working with clients in diverse communities, helping them develop healthy lifestyles. This component includes a counseling lab, practicum, and internship at sites approved by NYU in or near your community.
Career Opportunities with a Mental Health and Wellness Degree
In order to be eligible to obtain licensure and provide counseling services as a mental health counselor, you must hold a master’s degree in mental health counseling. With a degree from NYU Steinhardt, you will be prepared to pursue licensure and help address the mental health needs of individuals, families, and communities in diverse settings. You will also be equipped to pursue additional advanced degrees, including doctoral study.
