Counseling@NYU combines interactive online classes, real-world training experiences, and course work designed to accommodate your personal schedule and needs.
Our Department of Applied Psychology delivers accredited online graduate courses that focus on theory and practical application. Distinguished NYU faculty teach the online courses. We aim to employ all aspects of psychology throughout a variety of real world settings, including the school, home, classroom, and community.
MA in Counseling and Guidance
Counseling@NYU offers a master of arts in Counseling and Guidance: School and Bilingual School Counseling, Grades Pre-K-12.
This program prepares aspiring school counselors to become collaborative leaders in elementary, middle, and high schools across the country. As a student, you will take courses that feature principles of equity, social justice, and an understanding of pre-K-12 students from diverse cultural contexts. You’ll gain knowledge of counseling research and practice through course work, a counseling lab, practicum, and internship experiences at schools in or near your community.
As a Counseling@NYU graduate, you will be prepared to make a difference in the lives of children and families, working with them to achieve personal growth and academic success.

New York University's Counseling@NYU online program offers a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance: School and Bilingual School Counseling, Grades Pre-K-12. The Counseling@NYU program is accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) under the Masters in Counseling Accreditation Committee (MCAC) standards.
The New York University’s Counseling and Guidance: School and Bilingual School Counseling, Pre-K-12 prepares students to work as a school counselor in elementary, middle and high schools, and as a child advocate in community-based organizations.
Licensed school counselors are critical resources for children and their families, assisting students to achieve their goals. School counselors are vital in helping students in the areas of academic achievement, social/personal development, ensuring today’s students become the productive, and successful adults of tomorrow.
This program leads to eligibility for New York State certification as a school counselor for grades pre-K-12.
Students may also be eligible for certification in other states outside of New York, however, certification requirements differ from state to state. Most state licensing boards require a master’s degree, testing, and potentially additional post-graduate coursework requirements. We encourage students to research the requirements specific to their resident state.
